Such a great scene. The desperation of Travis comes out so strongly here. DeNiro’s acting is really fantastic. Also, the situation portrayed in this scene is something that many people can relate to: you trying to spill your guts to a friend who doesn’t understand you at all. Your friend tries and fails miserably to make you feel better by saying simple, thoughtless things that do nothing for you. Ultimately, you just end up feeling worse. You feel like you’re on a whole different planet because your friend and you completely talk past each other. And that’s when Travis isolated himself even further. This was his last cry for help, a desperate attempt at having someone to listen to him and understand him. But it didn’t happen and after this, he started acting out the bad ideas in his head.

An incredibly moving, thoughtful film that anyone who has ever felt lonely and cut off from the world should watch. What Travis goes through in this movie is not a rarity, it’s a universal phenomenon and it is examined with perfection. Therefore, this movie will never get old.
